Benue Governor receives IBB in Makurdi.

BENUE State Governor Gabriel Suswam has described former military president, Ibrahim Babangida, as a man with presidential qualities to lead the nation.


Speaking at a meeting with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegates in Benue State, Suswam described Babangida as a statesman who has presidential qualities required to lead the nation.
A crowd of top politicians, women groups and students from the 23 local councils of Benue State thronged the Makurdi airport to receive Babangida.


Benue political leaders led by Senator George Akume, besieged the airport for several hours before the arrival of Babangida by 12 noon.

Suswam advised General Babangida to de-emphasise zoning and focus his campaign on his laudable qualities.He said that in his eight years as military president, he left lasting legacies that helped to develop the nation.


According to Suswam, the PDP as a party believes in internal democracy, noting that the nation deserves quality leaders to transform the country.

In his address, Babangida solicited the support of Benue people. He said he cultivated the friendship of Benue people when he started his military career in 1964.He called on Governor Suswam to support his bid to lead the nation again.


The director general of the Ibrahim Babangida Campaign Organisation, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, said that Benue people should stick to the PDP constitution that promotes zoning.


He recalled that during 2007 meeting, it was decided that the North should enjoy the Presidency for eight years. He said Babangida had been a stabilising factor in the nation's politics.
Dokpesi called on Nigerians to give the former president the chance to lead the nation again
