How to Do Dread Extenders

Neglecting to comb your hair and letting it knit together into clumps is the natural way to produce dreadlocks. These clumps are then pried apart to make large or small locks, depending on the style you choose. This process takes a fair amount of time. Backcombing locks of hair produces the same results more quickly, but this can damage your hair. Adding extensions is another alternative. These temporary dreadlocks can be removed when you grow tired of them. Difficulty: Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need: Hair extensions Spirit gum 1 Section your hair into a square of approximately 1"x1". Braid the section of hair. 2 To attach the synthetic hair to your braid, place a dab of spirit gum on one end of the synthetic hair extension and glue the end of the extension perpendicular (horizontally) onto your braid at a point that is close to the scalp. Wrap the synthetic hair tightly around the outside of the entire natural hair braid, keeping the rows close together, until you reach the end of your braided hair. When you are finished, your natural hair will be covered with the synthetic hair wound tightly around it. 3 Cut off any synthetic hair that is longer than your braided hair and place a dab of spirit gum on the end of the dread to glue it in place and to keep it from unwrapping. This produces a silky type of dread. 4 If you desire more realistic dreadlocks, backcomb the dreads. Comb the synthetic hair toward the scalp. This will produce a rougher look. 5 Repeat the steps on all the braids to get an entire head of dreadlock
