Onoja gets tribunal’s approval to inspect election documents.

Elections petition tribunal sitting in Makurdi, the
Benue State capital, has granted the defeated Action Congress of Nigeria
(ACN) candidate for Benue South Senatorial District. Gen. Lawrence
Onoja, permission to inspect all the documents used by the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the April 9 National
Assembly election. The tribunal ordered INEC to bring for inspection all the documents used for the conduct of the election in the nine local government areas that make up the senatorial district. It also ordered INEC to issue true certified documents from all polling units, wards and Local government. INEC is also to confirm in writing where any of the documents is not available and give reason for its nonavailability.
The electoral body is to comply with the order within seven days. Documents for inspection include ballot papers, result sheets, voter’s register and oath of neutrality sworn to by INEC officials. The order has been served on the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Nasir Ayilara, by Gen. Onoja’s lawyer, Mr. Dubem Ugwuneze.
