Suswam Not Behind Fees Hike In Tertiary Institutions -N.U.B.E.S.S President

The National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS) has absolved the Governor Gabriel Suswam administration of hiking tuition fees in tertiary institutions in the state, especially in the Benue State University, Makurdi.
In a statement in Makurdi yesterday, NUBESS leadership said the campaign of calumny carried out by some faceless students insinuating that the tuition fees of the Benue State University has been increased by over 500 per cent is not true.
NUBESS national president, Comrade Enoch Bemshima Ortese, the national president of the Community of Tiv Students, Comrade Saamoyol Ubugh and that of Idoma students, maintained that universities in the country got autonomy in 2007, and that the decision to increase tuition fee lies with university authorities.
In a statement, they said Governor Suswam in what they described as his magnanimity, subsidized the tuition fees at the Benue State University, and that the fees of the institution is the second lowest in the Northern part of the country.
