Police Arrest 6 Persons In Connection With Mr Luka Ayabam's Brutal Murder.

Six persons have been arrested by the Benue State Police Command over the alleged murder of Mr. Luka Ayabam, Uncle of the Chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Mr. Andrew Ayabam.

State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ejike Alaribe, confirmed the arrests, in an interview with reporters  in Makurdi.

Alaribe added that the police have also intensified investigations into the killing of Ayabam with a view to apprehending all those involved in the matter.

This is even as members of the family of the deceased have called for a full investigation into the murder, alleging conspiracy in the assassination.

In a letter to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emmanuel Obiakor, which was copied to the Assistant Inspector of Police, AIG, Zone 4 Police Command, and entitled “brutal assassination of Mr. Luka Ayabam and consequential threat to peace in parts of Ushongo community/ request for thorough investigation”, the family pointed out that the soul of the late Ayabam would only rest in peace when the assailants are arrested.

According to the letter, some armed persons had broken into the house of Luka Ayabam, (behind Federal Government Girls’ College, Gboko) at about 2 a.m on October 30, 2011, and shot him severally in the head, neck and stomach after informing the deceased and his family that they did not come for his money but his life.

He was later confirmed dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital in Gboko by family members and sympatisers.

The family however fingered a top local government official in Gwer Local Lovernment area of the state (names witheld) as key suspect in the murder.
