How Obasanjo’s Son Smashed PREMIUM TIMES Journalist’s Phone.
Obasanjo’s son was unenthusiastic about a journalist taking pictures of his father’s burning house.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s son, Oba, on Thursday seized and smashed the phone of a journalist taking pictures of his father’s burning house in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
A PREMIUM TIMES correspondent, Dimeji Kayode, was taking pictures of Mr. Obasanjo’s house when Oba got enraged, grabbed the phone forcefully and smashed it on the ground.
“He just approached me and before I knew what was happening he collected my blackberry phone from my hand and the next thing I saw was my phone scattered on the ground, ” Mr. Kayode said after the incident.
The fire started at about 4.25 p.m. and was traced to a power surge.President Obasanjo left the house only twenty minutes to the fire incident.
The former president, unlike his son, seems to have taken the news of the incident lightly. Addressing the journalists on the incident, the former president joked in Yoruba that “Go, go and sing to the whole world that ‘the Kings house that is gutted by fire only beautifies the house.”
The fire has been put out by men of the fire service and Obasanjo is currently receiving sympathizers at the premises.
