Amaechi Speaks.

The Rivers State Governor and re-elected Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Chibuike Amaechi has spoken on his suspension by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP). The Rivers State Governor and re-elected Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Chibuike Amaechi Speaking on Monday evening at a youth interactive session, with the theme: “Consolidating on Rivers of our dreams” held at the banquet hall of government house in Port Harcourt with youth in the state, Governor Amaechi said the NWC issued a press statement to suspend him without any invitation and fair hearing from him.
The PDP had on Monday suspended Mr Amaechi, from its fold citing governor’s alleged role in the crisis rocking the Obio/Akpor local council as the bases for its decision.

In a communique signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Oliseh Metuh, Governor Amaechi was accused of “violating Articles 58 1 (b), (c), (h) and (m) of the PDP Constitution following his refusal to obey the lawful directive of the Rivers State Executive Committee to rescind his decision dissolving the elected Executive Council of Obiokpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.” Governor Amaechi however said although the constitution empowers him to dissolve the leadership of any local council in the state, he was not responsible for the suspension of the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and 17 Councillors o the Obio/Akpor council. He said the State House of Assembly suspended the executive of the LGA to enable it investigate petitions of corruption filed against the council bosses.

Governor Amaechi, who called the current event with his party political witch-hunting, said it is so ridiculous and urged the party to rise above its present state. He advised the police in the state to obey court orders by vacating the Obio/Akpor council premises, and allow normalcy to return to the Secretariat.
