1.   JTF arrests 65 insurgents, kills 10 in Borno
     The Punch
As the emergency rule declared by President Goodluck Jonathan entered the third day, Special Forces have
arrested 65 suspected Boko Haram members in Borno State. The Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Chris
Olukolade, said in an electronic mail on Saturday that the insurgents were arrested while trying to escape from
various camps taken over by security forces. Link
 
2.   Defence Headquarters says 14 Boko Haram insurgents killed in ongoing operations

The Defence Headquarters on Sunday confirmed that 14 Boko Haram terrorists had been killed in the ongoing
military operations in the Northern part of the country. A statement by Brig-Gen. Chris Olukolade, Director of
Defence Information said that three soldiers died and seven who sustained injuries were being treated in a
military medical facility. The statement, which did not disclose the location of the latest assault between the
military and the insurgents, said one soldier was still missing. Link
3.   Boko Haram has anti-aircraft, anti-tank guns, Nigerian Military says after destruction

The Nigerian military said on Friday that it destroyed weapons, including anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns, owned by
insurgents in Borno State. The military said in a statement that advancing troops of the Special Task Force have
destroyed some terrorists' camps sited in the forests of Northern and Central Borno. The statement was issued in

4.   State of Emergency: Military Gains Ground as Boko Haram Desert Camps

There has been a partial telecommunications shut down in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital over the State of
Emergency declared in the state by President Goodluck Jonathan. Residents of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital
woke up on Friday to realise that what they thought was a minor problem with mobile telephone services the
previous day was actually a deliberate action by the mobile networks, who are believed to be complying with

6.   Jonathan: Emergency Rule is Yielding Results

As the military continues its onslaught against Boko Haram in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States, President
Goodluck Jonathan has thanked Nigerians for their support for the emergency rule declared in the three states,
assuring them that the effort of the armed forces has already started yielding positive results. His statement
coincided with the pledge by the country's armed forces to continue their offensive against militants in the north-

7.   Army: Boko Haram Using Fake Military Uniforms

The Nigerian Army has discovered a dangerous change of tactics by the members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect
who are using fake military uniforms to confuse security agents and unleash mayhem on unsuspecting members of
the public. The tactic was also adopted by insurgents in Daura, Katsina State at about 10pm on Thursday night,
where two soldiers and five Boko Haram sect members were confirmed killed. Link
8.   State of Emergency: Air Raids Kill 30 Boko Haram Militants

At least 30 militants have been killed during air raids on their training camps in north-eastern Nigeria, officials say.
An army spokesman said jets and helicopter gunships had been used to
attack several camps. He told the BBC that a plane had been hit by anti-aircraft fire but
had managed to return to base. States of emergency were declared this week in three north-eastern states hit by
Boko Haram's Islamist insurgency. Link

9.  2,000 flee Borno to Niger Republic

More than 2,000 Nigerians living in border villages in Borno State have reportedly fled as a result of the ongoing
military operations targeted at routing insurgents from the area under the emergency rule. The fleeing villagers
were said to have headed to the neighbouring Niger Republic. "Most of the residents of border villages of Borno
have fled to Niger. About 2,000 people from Abadan, Malam Fatori and other villages are now refugees in Difa,
Niger Republic," a top security officer told one of our correspondents on Sunday. Link
10. Emergency rule: Boko Haram militants flood Gombe, Bauchi

Following the declaration of a state of emergency in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states, some members of the
fundamentalist Boko Haram sect have started fleeing to neighbouring Gombe, Bauchi and Jigawa states, SUNDAY
PUNCH authoritatively reports. On Thursday, members of the sect attacked two police stations and four banks in

11. We won't arrest Asari-Dokubo – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has said there is no cause for any action on threats by the Leader of the Niger Delta
People's Volunteer Force, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, over President Goodluck Jonathan's re-election in 2015. It says it
has no cause to arrest or issue any warning to the ex-militant. Speaking to our correspondent in a telephone
interview on Friday, the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, said those making inciting
statements about 2015 could only be arrested when they had carried out their threats. He however did not state if Link
12. Plateau residents in fear as soldiers pursue B'Haram

The Police and Special Task Force in Plateau have put their operatives in Jos, the state capital, on high alert
following reports that members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, fleeing from military onslaught in Borno
State have been sighted in Bauchi and other neighbouring states.
There was high presence of riot policemen as well as increased security checkpoints in Jos and Bukuru metropolis
on Sunday. Most churches witnessed low turnout as the increased security presence and extra search created

13. Why FG won't disband Boko Haram amnesty panel – Presidency

The Federal Government will continue with the process of dialoguing with members of the Boko Haram sect with a
view to achieving peace and stability in the North despite the declaration of a state of emergency in three northern
states, the Presidency said on Friday. Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, made the
clarification while responding to a call by the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, to
jettison the idea of granting pardon to the Boko Haram sect because of the magnitude of destruction carried out by

14. U.S. warns Nigerian military against human rights abuses

The United States Government has warned military authorities in Nigeria against abuse of civilian rights in the
ongoing fight against Boko Haram in some north eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.  The U.S.
government's warning was contained in a statement released on Sunday by John Kerry, the Secretary of State. The
statement said the U.S. "is deeply concerned about the fighting in northeastern Nigeria following President
Jonathan's declaration of a state of emergency in the Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states". Link

The relative peace enjoyed by the people of Ganye Town in Adamawa State was shattered on Friday, March 22,
when some gunmen attacked a prison, police station and a bank. The attack led to the death of the Deputy
Comptroller in charge of Ganye Prison, Baba Musa, and many other residents of the town including a prominent

16. Church seeks compensation for victims of Boko Haram

17. State of Emergency: JTF slams 24 hours curfew in parts of Maiduguri

As Nigerian troops intensify their search for criminals and members of the Boko Haram in Maiduguri, the Joint Task
Force on Saturday imposed a 24 hours curfew in places identified as hot spots of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
In a statement issued to journalists the spokesman of the JTF, Sagir Musa, said there would be no movement in the

18. Boko Haram members may face war crimes charges – UN

21.  Cocaine pushers bag 20-year imprisonment, without option of fine

Justice Okechukwu Okeke of a Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos, on Friday convicted and sentenced two cocaine
traffickers, Gabriel Obi and Godfrey Ugwu, to 20 years imprisonment each, over illicit drug deals in Lagos. Justice
Okeke held that the prosecution had discharged its burden of proof by proving its case beyond reasonable doubt."I
do not believe the testimonies of the accused, when they alleged that they were business associates. The accused
did not lead any evidence to substantiate the claims that they were actually partners doing genuine business. Link

22.  Police kill gunmen who bombed two police stations in Daura, Katsina

The police in Katsina State said they killed five gunmen responsible for bombing two police stations and four banks
in Daura, Katsina State. The Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Abdullahi Magaji, said the armed robbers were
killed after the attacks on Thursday night. Link
23. Tree kills 31 people, injures 16 others in Imo

Thirty one persons were killed in Imo State when a tree fell on them. The incident happened at the Ukwu Uko
evening market at Umuejinwaoke Umudagu Village, Mbieri, Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo. About 16
others sustained various injuries during the incident, which was caused by rainstorm on Thursday night. Link
24. Police nab ASP, 3 others over kidnap kingpin's escape

POLICE in Delta State have arrested and detained four police officers, including  an Assistant Superintendent of
Police, Sergeant and Corporal, for allegedly aiding the escape of a kidnap kingpin from police cell in Asaba,

26. Police To Adopt Community Partnership To Identify National Threats - IG

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, says police will now strengthen partnership with
communities to identify potential national security threats. The IG said this on Saturday in Gusau at the opening of
a one-day Intelligence Sensitisation and Community Partnership Workshop. Abubakar, who was represented on
the occasion by the AIG North West Zone, Suleiman Fakai, said partnership with communities would now take
"central role in preventing and responding to terrorism and reducing citizens' security concerns". Link

27.  Police Nab 5 Suspects With Weapons In Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command yesterday paraded five suspects allegedly nabbed with weapons along Mutum-
Biyu road while on their way to Wukari town. The suspects include Joshua Umaru, of Magami Ward Jalingo; Timothy
Jualang, Abubakar Alhassan, Eli Lawrence, all of Maitunku Balanga Council of Gombe State and Maxwell Kefas of

28. NAMA Workers Threaten to Close Airspace Today

Nigeria's airspace maybe shut today as workers of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) threatened
to embark on industrial action over the failure of the agency's management to implement the newly approved
salary scale endorsed by the National Salary and Wages Commission. Besides threatening to close the airspace,
the workers have also vowed to disrupt all scheduled and unscheduled flights in and out of the country. Link
 
29. NAMA workers cancel planned closure of airspace

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) staff has suspended the industrial action slated to start on
Monday to press home their demand for additional welfare package. The workers decided to suspend the planned
strike after a meeting between the management and union leaders. Mr. Supo Atobatele. General Manager, Public

30. 'Over 20 lecturers, relations kidnapped in Delta varsity'

Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka branch, Dr. Emmanuel Mordi, at
the weekend, said at least 20 lecturers, their spouses and relations, had been kidnapped in the last two years by

visited the university, just as the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eric Arubayi, confirmed that the university and Abraka

alongside two other women who were believed to have paid certain sums of money respectively, to be delivered of
babies. Forty three years old Joy Ibe who lives at Ajah area of Lagos, said she has been married for 18 years
without any issues, a dilemma that prompted her to run up and down seeking for fruit of the womb, until she came
in contact with a Port Harcourt based 50- year old woman identified as Oby George, who was noted for helping
women deliver babies after paying an agreed amount of money to her. Link
32. Lagos rescues four children sold for N60, 000 by parents

Lagos state government, yesterday said it rescued no fewer than four children in the last one year sold by their
parents and guardians for a minimum of N60, 000, to aid their financial needs.
The state government however said that 187 cases of child abuse and domestic violence were reported and

conceive and bear children, the huge psychological toll makes them fall prey to fraudulent people and patrons of
'baby factories'. Desope Cecilia, 61, and Joy Ibe, 43, were among victims of a midwife, Oby George, who promised
them 'miracle' twins and triplets respectively. While the midwife was being paraded before journalists at the
Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, on Friday, the victims told their stories, with faces covered for security reasons. Link

35. Police probes alms-giver's "missing manhood" claim

Police authorities in Ondo State say they are investigating a middle-aged woman accused of castrating a man using
charms. The alleged victim, a graduate of College of Education, Oro, Kwara State, claimed the woman, a beggar,
allegedly hypnotized him after he gave her N50 alms, resulting in his manhood disappearing. The man, who gave
his name as Mr. Akande, said he started feeling his penis shrink five minutes after parting with the money. Link

36. Falling tree kills 31, injures 16 in Imo

Thirty-one persons, including two sisters, were killed when a tree at the Ukwu Uko evening market at
Umuejinwaoke Umudagu village, Mbieri, Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo State, fell on them. The News
Agency of Nigeria reports that 16 other victims sustained varying degrees of injury during the incident, which was
caused by a rainstorm on Thursday night. A resident of the community, Mr. Nnaemeka Emenyonu, told NAN in
Owerri that the tree fell on the affected persons about 8:00 pm. He said the tree also destroyed the village hall. Link
37. Top prisons officer arrested for operating illegal varsity

A senior official of the Nigerian Prisons Service in Delta State has been arrested for allegedly running an illegal
university in the state. This came as no fewer than 600 illegal schools have also been uncovered. A team of officials
of the National Universities Commission, NUC, accompanied by men of the ICPC had, last Thursday, in Asaba,
