Pope Francis Canonizes 802 New Saints.


May 12, 2013 will remain historic in the life of the Church.Roughly 80,000 pilgrims flocked to St. Peter's Square, as the Pope celebrated his first canonization ceremony. Two Latin American nuns and roughly 800 Italian martyrs were declared saints.

The new saints include Italian cobbler Antonio Primaldo, who was killed along with an hundreds more Italians, who remain anonymous, in 1480 by Ottoman forces for refusing to convert to Islam.
“While we venerate the martyrs of Otrante, ask God to support the many Christians who still suffer from violence and give them the courage and fate and respond to evil with goodness,” Francis said and also Mother Laura Montoya is the first Colombian saint and Mother Lupita is the second Mexican female to be canonized.
