Djimon Hounsou Thinks Marriage Turns A Relationship Sour,Do You Think So Too?

Djimon Hounsou Doesn't Believe in Marriage

I guess we won’t be getting any invitations to Djimon Hounsou’s future wedding seeing as though he believes that marriage can actually ruin a relationship! Although Djimon and Kimora Lee Simmons never tied the knot, back in 2009, the former couple participated in a commitment ceremony in front of Djimon’s family in Africa. The couple called it quits just last year.

During a recent sit-down with Hip Hollywood while promoting his new film “Baggage Claim,” Djimon revealed:

The idea of marrying somebody can actually ruin the union. Some people are very happy together for decades and they get this fantasy idea of going to get married and it’s just about papers. Signing papers. Eventually, it just goes sour.

Djimon isn’t the only one who believes marriage can ruin a relationship. Back in 2009, Oprah said in an interview:

Had [Stedman and I] made the official marriage commitment, we wouldn’t still be together. The reason the relationship works is that we get to define it on our terms. It would be very different if we were in a ‘traditional’ relationship where I was expected to be a wife and every now and then cook a meal!

Do you believe that marriage can ruin a relationship?

It sounds as though the expectations of what marriage should be may be the actual problem. When a person makes a vow or commitment with their partner that’s supposed to be lifelong, their perspective on the relationship changes and their expectations of their significant other are much higher than when they were just dating. When those expectations aren’t met, that’s when the problems arise.
