National Human Rights Commission Commences Hearing On Extra-JudicialKillings In Benue.



The Human Rights Commission on thursday commenced hearing on the extra-judicial killing, shielding/connivance with known criminals’ alleged by the Former Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar B Tsav.

According to AbubakarTsav, Aondongenen Ansha, who is standing trial before the Chief Magistrate Court 2,Makurdi, for culpable homicide,was released on bail under questionable circumstances, and is “supposedly” wanted by the police for another case of arson and inflicting machete cuts on five persons, led Special Anti-Robbery Squad {SARS} to arrest, shoot and kill one Terna A Manger Tsav said, even though two pistols were recovered on the deceased, he was not caught committing any crime and never resisted arrest or attempted escaping as his hands were tied to his back.
The deceased, he said was shot point blank in the chest and killed instantly and his body deposited at the Gboko General Hospital mortuary and as at press time, no entry on the circumstances of his death was made either to the press or his wife Dooshima and an aged mother.
The Former Commissioner of Police, described the action of SARS as unconstitutional and unprofessional and that his elimination is an attempt to shield other accomplice which negates the duties of the police and prayed the NHRC not to allow criminals go scot free.
Counsel to the alleged violators, Harold Samuel Tsumba, said that the accused have come to “clear the air” as they never committed the crime Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof Bem Angwe while addressing the house said, “the outcome of the closed door meeting will determine if there will be a public hearing or not but no violator will be spared”.
Both the petitioner and the alleged violators were at the Human Rights Commission for interrogation.
