Benue Governorship Aspirant Dr. Gabriel Tivlumun Nyitse & His WifeVisit Displaced Persons Camp At St Mary's Primary Sch North-bankMakurdi.

Immediate past Permanent Secretary for Govt. House Administration  and Governorship aspirant in Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Tivlumun Nyitse recently led a delegation from the Naomi Nyitse Foundation to visit persons displaced from the incessant attacks against rural farmers in the state by Fulani herdsmen. The Naomi Nyitse Foundation is a non-governmental organisation with a history of involvement in charitable works and humanitarian services, and the GTN led the Foundation’s delegation to visit the Displaced Persons camp located at St. Mary’s Primary School, North-Bank in Makurdi, the state capital city where they met and commiserated with the displaced persons and donated relief materials worth hundreds of thousands of naira to them.

Accompanied on the visit by his wife, Mrs. Helen Nguper Nyitse, GTN, visibly moved with compassion for the plight of the displaced persons, urged them to look to the brighter side of things and to guard against all forms of vices as could be prevalent in their present circumstances of living which he observed to be difficult and challenging.
While he condemned what he termed as “unprovoked and unjustifiable acts of aggression and atrocities” by the Fulani herdsmen against unarmed peasant Benue farmers, the GTN however expressed optimism that the efforts of the state governor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam in liaising with the federal government and relevant security agencies may soon yield results with the restoration of security and normalcy in the affected areas and the return of displaced persons to their dwellings.
The GTN told the displaced victims that his entire kindred was also attacked and their dwellings completely destroyed, including his two country homes, with the displaced people now staying with him at his Makurdi residence and at some other locations where he secured accommodation for them.
“I and my people of Mbadwem are also refugees just like u are, but by God Almighty’s grace, my situation is a bit better than yours, and that is why I said let me visit with you, under the umbrella of the Naomi Nyitse Foundation, to comfort you in your moment of difficulty and to extend to you the little that God has put in our hand to bring to you, believing that it could be of help to you.” He said.
He further intimated the people of the activities of the Naomi Nyitse Foundation which he said include charitable and humanitarian services in the form of such visits as that to them, which the Foundation has always undertaken whenever there is a need, pointing to earlier visits to Logo Local Government Area of the state in 2012 and also to several displaced persons camps in the state last year as a result of similar attacks from Fulani herdsmen against farmers.
Former federal commissioner on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Citizen Asema Richard, who was also on the visiting entourage in his address to the displaced persons expressed empathy at their plight which he said is most pathetic and requiring of much more of such gestures of assistance as being extended by the Naomi Nyitse Foundation, from well meaning individuals and organisations, even as he lauded the Foundation for its solid reputation of being always willing and available to reach out to those in in distress.
The GTN made a donation, on behalf of the Naomi Nyitse Foundation, of relief materials worth hundreds of thousands of naira, comprising bags of rice, sorghum and flour, edible oil, salt and detergents.
Receiving the donated materials on behalf of the displaced persons, chairman of the camp, Mr. Zungwe Ature expressed deep gratitude to the GTN and the Naomi Nyitse Foundation for their kind gesture which he said was touching and comforting, both in the materials given and the words of encouragement brought to them by the Foundation.
The camp chairman further expressed the hope that govt. will act soon enough to improve living conditions at the camps which are still open with the attendant hazards occasioned by inadequate security and amenities.
The Naomi Nyitse Foundation was founded to the memory of the GTN’s late mother, Mama Naomi Nyitse, who is mostly remembered for her commitment and dedication to charity and humanitarian works.
