Music Maestro,Mike Okri Joins PDP In Delta State.
Afiesere community was agog on Monday 24th March as the international music maestro Mike Okri stormed the Afiesere ward 3/7 in Ughelli North Local Government to pick the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) membership card.
The membership card was officially handed to him by the unit Chairman Prince Festus Onodje-Zebede.
The members of the executive present at the card presentation included: Hon Franklin Edevbie, immediate past Ughelli North vice chairman; Party leader from the community; Mr Austin Omosivwe, ward 3/7
chairman; Mr. Ogaga Umukoro, unit vice chairman; Prince Paul Oseni, unit secretary; Prince Anthony Umukperuro unit Exco and Mrs. Margaret Daniel, unit women leader.
Addressing the party executives Mike Okri noted that his coming to the home unit to obtain the party’s membership card is to identify with his people at the grass root level.
The music star who has been involved in packaging programmes for some top policticians in the country said he intended to formally join the ruling party so as to contribute positively to human development
through democratic process.
‘‘In my view, I feel that to make meaningful impact in the lives of people, part of what you need is to have a political plat form through which to express yourself, that is why I chose to be in the ruling party instead of sailing against the tide.’’
He hinted that he would use his experience in the international entertainment arena to create meaningful impact especially in the lives of the youths.
Responding, Hon Franklin Edevbie commended his courage stressing that his action was a right step that would be reciprocated accordingly at all levels in the party.
Also speaking at the ceremony, ward chairman, Mr. Austin Omosivwe and the Unit Chairman Prince Festus Onodje, expressed their happiness at the Mike Okris formal enlistment into the PDP family.
In their separate speeches they opined that, the veteran musician’s presence has added to the list of political gladiators which Afiesere Unit has produced even as they promised to create for him the required political atmosphere to thrive in the party.
