Fire Guts Former Kaduna State Gov's Residence .
An evening fire incident has gutted part of the residence of former Governor of defunct Kaduna State, Alhaji Lawal Kaita.It was gathered that the inferno gutted four bedrooms and two sitting rooms in the former governor’s house adjacent opposite NYSC transit camp in cosy GRA at Katsina municipal.
The fire was said to have started when an unattended burning candle had exhausted itself in one of the rooms.Sources said the fire spread and consumed the rug, curtains and other equipment in the affected room before spreading to other rooms.
Unconfirmed source said one of the former governor’s daughters was trapped in one of the affected rooms when the incident occurred but was later rescued.
No life was however lost but items worth millions of naira were consumed by the inferno.It took the combined effort of security, aides and some members of the house to break part of the wall where she was trapped to set her free.Several sympathisers and political office holders have been visiting the former governor to sympathise with him over the incidence.
Among early sympathisers was Governor Ibrahim Shema, who expressed government’s sympathy after being taken round to see extent of damage on the house.He reportedly ordered for the renovation of the gutted part of the house among other renovation works within the house’s premises.
