At the risk of being seen as interpreting political events in Benue from the prism of partisan paranoia, let me say that traditional endorsement of candidates by TTC is a requiem for democracy!
I have come to discover that the government of Benue state is determined to stop any element of opposition from rearing up its "ugly" head, both within and outside their party.Expectedly, the first casualty will be internal democracy in their party and strangulation of dissent in the state! To this end, they have devised a system of seeking traditional endorsement of political contestants who enjoy the favor of the government. This way, candidates favored by the governor will be endorsed by the traditional authority, leaving the not so favored appear as interlopers and disturbers of "traditional" process of selection. It is now clear that our royal fathers have constituted themselves into the traditional wing of the ruling party.
Knowing the head of the TTC, all candidates not carrying the mark of the beast will be blackmailed and even publicly cursed if they proceed with seeking their mandate directly from the electorate.
Because the governor does not want to lose face with his legion of former staff and personal friends seeking his blessing and endorsement to succeed him, he has found willing accomplices in the traditional council to select a stooge through the back door, who will be cloaked in traditional garbs and sold to the public.
The latest endorsement of Suswam by the TTC, to contest for the senate against the incumbent Sen. Gemade is to coerce and intimidate everyone else to steer clear of the racetracks or risk a traditional curse of jaundice on both feet. This also provides justification for ruthless suppression of any other contestant and ensure Suswam's victory at the polls a fait accompli, even if he does not get the vote.
How else would Suswam have told MINDA to forget any hopes of getting the governorship on the platform of PDP, when he has used his seat to collateralise his loan from Kwande? The way prominent sons of lower-Kwande are warming up for the governorship race explains the metaphysics of this loan.
Well, let's continue to maintain mute indifference and keep our timid aloofness here in the limbo while waiting for the dice to roll.
