Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan Plans To Develop New Film Hub In Nigeria.

Emmanuel Uduaghan, the governor of Delta State, has announced he will be providing land for the construction of a film village in the area. The initiative stems from Uduaghan’s will to promote the country’s entertainment industry, which he believes is helping the nation to express its social issues and market Nigeria to the rest of the world.

According to AllAfrica.com Uduaghan spoke at an event in commemoration of the 74th birthday of Delta-born film producer, Eddie Ugbomah, and said, “"Some of your films, such as Oil Doom and Black Gold, are in tandem with our development model of Delta Beyond Oil. They expose the negative aspects of crude oil because an oil economy is not a sustainable economy; it has its challenges. Though we are an oil producing state, we are using the oil money to develop other areas of the economy, so we associate with the ideals of your films."

Delta State is synonymous with the film industry as many Nigerian filmmakers and actors are from, or have ties to, the region. Filmmakers Zeb Ejiro, Norbert Young, Richard Mofe Damijo, Stella Damasus, Omoni Oboli and Uti Nwanchukwu are some of the ‘deltans’ which have made a contribution to the growth of the local film industry. The state is also home to the Delta Entertainment Awards which recognize and reward outstanding talent and encourage industry growth in the state, and the country at large.

Uduaghan maintains that Delta State is an entertainment hub and a distinguished destination for movie production.
