Tiv People In Delta State Install Tyoor U Tiv Of Delta.

IT was celebration and luscious display of cultural nuances in Warri, Delta State, last Saturday, when indigenes of Tiv in Benue State, who are resident in Warri and environs, converged on Ekpan community to install their son, Mr Thomas Torakaa, as the new "Tyoo U Tiv of Delta."
The installation was performed by the president-general of Mzough U Tiv worldwide, Mr Edward Ujege, amid showers of praises from the people and well-wishers.


Ujege wished Torakaa success in his new responsibility and urged him to discharge his duties with the fear of God.
Elated Ujege also urged his subjects to support Torakaa to enable him succeed in the task of strengthening the bond and unity among the Tiv indigenes resident in Delta and beyond.

President of Mzough U Tiv in Delta State, Mr Songu Samuel, thanked Ujege for performing the traditional rite, saying the installation was long overdue. Samuel promised the new chief of maximum support and cooperation from all Tivs to achieve success in his new task.

According to him, the Mzough U Tiv in Delta had acquired a piece of land in Asaba to build a Tiv Secretariat as part of its developmental drive.

"We have also established Benue Link Park in Warri to alleviate the suffering of our people who wanted to travel home.

"The installation of Tyoor U Tiv, marks the elevation of Mzough U Tiv in Delta and official commencement of Mzough U Tiv South South,'' he said.

Samuel pledged his unalloyed loyalty and support to the ideas and proposals of Ujege which are geared towards moving the Tiv nation forward.

The new chief, Tokaraa also thanked the people for installing him as a chief and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.
The retired but not tired former staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said he would discharge his duties with sincerity and to the best of his ability.

"God will grant me the grace to unite the people and carry them along,'' he said.

He noted that the essence of the union was to foster unity among the Tiv people within the state and in the Diaspora.
"This gathering is more traditional in outlook, what we are preaching here is about the unity of the Tiv people worldwide.
"We are trying to unite them and also let them know the importance of living in peace and harmony with one another,'' he said.

Participants at the event were treated to a potpourri of cultural dance steps, attire, cuisine and worldview of the Tiv, the fourth largest ethnic group in the country, delineating their vivacity, amiability, peaceful nature and gregariousness
