Unpaid Salaries: Benue Assembly Plans To Sack Suswam’s Aides

The members of the Benue state House of Assembly are seriously angry over the blatant refusal of some summoned aides of Governor Gabriel Suswam to appear before it and are planning to sack them, LEADERSHIP has gathered.

Recall that the lawmakers had summoned the commissioner of finance, Omadachi Oklobia, the chairman of Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Gabriel Asen and the special adviser to the governor on local government, Solomon Wombo to appear before it and tender relevant documents on the downturn of financial status of the state, since 2014.

But the summoned government functionaries have deliberately refused to appear to the plenary, for two consecutive times, even as they failed to offer cogent reasons over their non-appearance.

However, sources at the assembly said the evading of summons by the government functionaries may not be unconnected to the widely spread allegations that some lawmakers were induced with largesse to slow the action and or stop the aides from tendering the financial documents.

Consequently, the speaker, Terhile Ayua has ordered that the summoned aides should appear unfailingly before the house today (Tuesday) and that if again, they failed to appear, drastic action would be properly taken against them.

The press secretary to the speaker, Yakubu Imanche Monday confirmed the refusal of the summoned aides to appear before the house and said today plenary, should anther non-appearance occur, the house would determine next action on the matter.
