Governor Samuel Ortom Sacks Suswam's Last Minute Recruits Into TheState Civil Service.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has ordered the cancellation of all last minute recruitments into the state civil service made by his predecessor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam.
He justified his action by citing the perilous financial condition of the state and reminded the beneficiaries that he had warned them against taking the appointments.

Ortom gave the directive in his office during meetings with heads of government agencies and parastatals.
The governor said the reversals became necessary in the view of the uncleared back log of salaries and allowances as well as retirement benefits in the state coupled with the empty treasury he met on assumption of office.
He directed the chairman of the state Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Comfort Agogo, to furnish him with the details of the employment status of former staff redeployed from the Benue State Internal Revenue Service to various Ministries.
While lamenting the huge debt burden of the state which he had met on assumption of office, Ortom sued for patience, support and cooperation of Benue people to enable him address the challenges confronting the state.
The Governor promised that his administration will make the necessary sacrifices to surmount the difficulties.
Addressing the Governing Council of the Benue State University, the Governor announced the cancellation of the report of the visitation panel to the University saying an accurate assessment of work done for five years could not be made in one week.
He promised that government would source the funds needed for accreditation of the College of Health Sciences and Teaching Hospital next September even if it needed borrowing.
Ortom promised to dialogue with the leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, with a view to addressing all contentious issues and assured parents and students that he would do all within his power for the school to reopen.
Earlier the Pro-Chancellor of the Benue State University, Professor Ode Ojowu, listed non-payment of salaries and grants as well as the non-release of funds meant for accreditation as well as the ongoing strike embarked upon by the academic staff union of the school as challenges.
The Governor also met with the chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Comrade Richard Gbande, the Chairman of the Teaching Service Board, Mr. Sam Victor Tor-Anyiin, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress led by Mr. Godwin Anya as well as the management of the Health Management Board who all pledged their loyalty to the new administration.
