NEMA Takes Flood Awareness Campaign To Recidents Of Makurdi.#Floodawareness2015

The North-Central zone of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) yesterday carried out a road show in Makurdi metropolis to sensitize residents on the need to be prepared for flood in the event that it occurs.

The campaign, tagged, "2015 Flood Awareness Campaign and Sensitisation" focused on preparedness and response to flood and other related raining season hazards.

Representing the zonal coordinator, Assistant Chief Planning Officer of the zone, Muhammad Suleiman, said though the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMET) said there would be low rainfall this year, the preparation is necessary as the prediction is not certainty.

"NEMA is preparing against impending flood because anything can still happen due to late onset of rainfall this year. We don't want to be taken unawares, it happened in 2012 and over two million people were displaced across the country. So, we need to create awareness and sensitise members of the public like we are doing now," he said.
