Saraki's Ambition Suffers Set Back.
Senator Bukola Saraki
The ambition of Senator Bukola Saraki to become the next Senate president of the eight National Assembly has suffered set back after Senators from the Northwest zone denied endorsing him.
Senator Adamu Aliero in a statement yesterday, June 1, said the news circulating in the media that Senator Saraki had secured the support from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara in the Northwest zone was false.
He said there was never a time senators-elect from the zone met to endorse Saraki, according to The Nation.
“I want to state categorically that such a meeting never took place and thus no blanket support could have been secured as claimed by the Saraki group in a news report titled: “Senate Presidency: Saraki consolidates as Lawan’s Group hits the rock”.
Senator Aliero noted that Senator Ahmed Lawan was still in contention for the Senate presidency and warned those behind the misleading stories to stop spreading them.
The said report regarding Senator-Bukola Saraki’s adoption by senators – elect from the Northwest zone was carried by This Day.
The report claimed that the move by the national leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu to root for that Senator Ahmed Lawan for the senate presidency hit the wall.after sentors – elect from the Northwest zone said they had signed a written document to support the ambition of Senator Saraki.
