Benue State,Nigeria We Refuse To Accept These Clumsy Excuses-Ukan Kurugh

Do you know why you’re harassed at visa interviews by embassy staff? The government has a clumsy excuse for that. Do you know why you’re frisked inside out by Customs and Immigration in other lands? Forget Abdulmutallab, the government has many other clumsy excuses for that too. In fact there is little wrong on this country the government willingly works to fix, excuses are offered all the time. Even recently the Buhari government that ought to be different started offering excuses as to why his assets declaration hasn’t been made public, so you see it is a Nigerian trend.

Today I want to draw our attention to the excuse offered as to why our education is so poor and why certain things take ages to accomplish.

Nicholas Idoko Ejugwu spent the last 11 years of his life in Benue State University as a Medical Student. That was enough time to pursue a 4 year degree, two masters degrees and a PhD, at the end of his life was no closer to being a medical doctor as he had wanted. Disappointing is not a fitting description to describe the situation.

After his death, we are still yet to get any official statement from BSU authorities. I can say without second thought that if and when such a statement is released it will be rife with excuses. Why has the Benue State University College of Health Sciences taken so much time to be set up and accredited despite billions of naira accrued to it? Where in the world has a medical student who has spent more than 6 years in school been withdrawn? I am sad at the life of the young man that seemingly has gone to waste. But again this will continue if all we get from the government is excuses. We need results, the time for excuses has run out.
