Graphic Picture: 2 Tiv Boys Murdered By Fulani Herdsmen At Kortse Village In Dananacha, Taraba State.

Two Tiv boys, Ushahemba Kumashenge and Sughter Igba were yesterday matcheted to death at Kortse village, 5 kilometres away from Dananacha in Gassol LGA of Taraba State when they went fishing in their village. The two slain Tiv boys went fishing with 5 others who survived narrowly following the attack.

According one of the survivors, Mrs Esther Kumashenge who doubles as the mother of Ushahemba and grandmother of Sughter, ‘’the attackers are from the home of Alh. Nyako. They sent Mrs Goma Yakubu who is a wife of one the Fulani men in the home and a shepherd of Mallam who is also from their home to spy on them where they were fishing before they attacked them’’.She also narrated that she and four others survived the attack: ‘’When they descended on the victims, we ran and narrowly escaped the attack when their attention was on the two they killed’’.

Mrs Esther Kumashenge survived the attack alongside Mrs Celina Agir, Miss Hembafan Kumashenge and Mr Shiebee Aondo.

When contacted, the elder brother of the victims, Mr Timothy Kumashenge Kpoghul also confirmed the story saying they went with Officers of the Nigerian Police and Vigilante Group from Dananacha Police Station today and conveys the corpses. The corpses were handed over to the Tiv central leader of Dananacha, Zaki Daniel Mbateren who in turn handed them over to their family.

It will be recalled that the governor of Taraba State has charged Traditional rulers in the state to ensure the safe return of the displaced persons back to their ancestral homes. Since then, many of the displaced persons irrespective of their tribe and religion have been returning to their homes, but in most places, the Fulanis have intensified attack some areas, killing and chasing away returnees.
