Nigerian Guild Of Editors| Saraki Congratulates Garba Deen-Muhammad, Others.
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, today (Sunday) congratulated Mallam Garba Deen-Muhammad on his election as the President, Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
He also hailed the emergence of Mr. Steve Ayorinde as the Deputy President and Mrs. Funke Egbemode, Managing Director and Editor-In-Chief of the New Telegraph, who was elected Vice-President (West) of the NGE respectively.
The Senate President stated that though the requirements of their new
responsibilities are daunting, he is convinced that the new officers
have what it takes to effectively and efficiently lead the organization.
He specifically urged Deen-Muhammad and the entire leadership of the NGE to lead the needed change in the journalism profession in the country with the aim of making it more responsive and development focussed.
Saraki said: "Your take-over of the leadership of the Guild happened at a time the entire nation is desirous of a new thinking in the management of her affairs. I am confident that you are well-equipped to contribute to the realization of a new NGE, the development of the journalism profession and emergence of a progressive Nigeria in general, during your tenure."
He also urged the NGE to join hands with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and other relevant stakeholders to rid the noble pen profession of quacks and impostors whose activities undermine the credibility of the true professionals.
While wishing Deen-Muhammad, Ayorinde, Egbemode and their colleagues in the NGE executive a successful tenure in office, the Senate President urged them to deploy their rich experience in further uplifting and expanding the frontiers of the body of Gatekeepers in the newsrooms.
