Benue: Contractor Abandons 47 Trucks Of Fake Fertiliser In Ministry Of Agric Warehouse.
47 Trucks of fake fertilser have been abandoned in the Benue state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources warehouse.
Commissioner for Agriculture Mr. James Anbua who disclosed this in a Chat with newsmen in Makurdi said the fake fertiliser which was obtained with huge sum of money was supplied by the contractor, SOLAB ENGINEERING COMPANY LTD and left in the Ministry’s warehouse since March of 2013, even though it was rejected by government.
Mr. Anbua noted with dismay the attitude of the contractor who refused to evacuate what he described as ‘poisonous chemical’ to allow for space for new consignment of fertilizer ordered by the Ortom administration.
The commissioner explained that on assumption of office, he learned that in 2012 the State Government awarded a contract to one Solab Engineering Company Ltd for the supply of about 61 trucks of fertiliser comprising 47 NPK and 14 trucks of Urea.
He however, said the 47 trucks of NPK was later discovered to be sand mixed with some chemicals when a test was carried out to verify the standard before distribution to farmers.
