Rt.Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange
SPEAKER
BENUE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY
MAKURDI
BENUE STATE

Dear Hon Speaker,

BENUE COALITION AGAINST CORRUPTION (BECAC) DEMANDS INVESTIGATION OF HON JAMES OKEFE- DEPUTY SPEAKER, BENUE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.

Sir, you will recall that the House used two days - 17th and 22nd September 2015 to discuss a blog posting which your Deputy found unpalatable. On the 22nd of September, the Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government and his executive council were invited to come and defend themselves before the House for writing demeaning reports about the Deputy Speaker. This shows to us that the House takes very seriously Facebook and blog posting.

Sir, it is for this reason we bring to your attention grave allegations made by Linus Ojechema in his publication titled  “THE AMBITIOUS WAYS OF JAMES OKEFE THE EPICENE OF BENUE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY”. This was released on Facebook on the 24th of September 2015.Ordinarily we would not have bothered you with this item but for the stance taken by the distinguished House of Assembly to investigate blog and Facebook postings on allegations against the Deputy Speaker –Hon James Okefe.Clearly what is good for Greece must be good for Uganda.

The report by Linus Ojechema states that Hon James Okefe was given the mandate to defend the cost of cars to be supplied to the House of Assembly before the Executive Governor, His Excellency Samuel Ortom. In doing so he employed his Special Assistant-Mr. Agada to act as the contractor before the unsuspecting Governor Ortom. Our investigations reveal that the contract was for 250,000,000 Naira (Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira Only) and this was to supply cars to the House Leadership. The allegation by Linus Ojechema also states that Hon James Okefe was awarded the contract using a phoney company. In essence this contract was awarded to Hon James Okefe through a front company.

Sir, this is a case of conflict of interest involving the highest level of deceit if the allegations are found to be true. BECAC demands from the House that whoever comes to justice must come with clean hands. You must prove to the people of Benue State that the era of “come chop” politics is over. You have a duty to investigate this matter notwithstanding that it is a Facebook posting just as you did in the case involving Hon James Okefe vs Chairman, Okpokwu LGC and ors.

Sir, BECAC believes in your leadership qualities and hope that you will do justice to this very serious  matter.

Sir, please accept the assurances of my highest regards on behalf of BECAC .

Yours faithfully,

Audu Agbo
Chairman BECAC
