Five Nigerians, three females and two males, have been confirmed dead on natural causes for this year's holy pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia with four recorded in Madina and one in Makkah.

Three of the dead who have been buried in Madina were from Kogi, Katsina and Benue states. The state of origin of the remaining two persons could not be ascertained as at press time. Coordinator of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in Madinah, Dr. Bello Tambuwal confirmed the incidents.

We gathered from officials that while one of the pilgrims died on the way to Makkah, the remaining four were in Madina including a woman who was in the state of ihram (sanctity). Tambuwal who refused to give further details however said the deaths were minimal compared to previous years. He also said those with one form of ailments or another have been treated.
