CSNAC Petitions EFCC On The US$2.2 Million GAVI Refund, Says Okonjo-Iweala Must Be Probed

In a petition dated September 23, the Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC‎)requested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Investigation (EFCC)investigate the alleged mismanagement of the US$2.2 million by the Nigerian government and the controversial decision to ‎refund to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) spearheaded by Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

This petition came in two (2) days after GAVI announced the appointment of Ms. Okonjo-Iweala as chair of its 28-member Board.

Her appointment, coming only months after she spearheaded the decision to pay ‎the US$2.2 million to the Geneva-based organization, being a refund for funds allegedly mismanaged by Nigerian health officials despite protests by officials of the health ministry that all GAVI grants had been judiciously used is seen as an act of sabotage, aimed at placating an international organisation at the expense of National integrity and reputation.

As reported by Premium Times, CSNAC stated that with the appointment of Ms. Okonjo-Iweala as Chair of GAVI’s Board, there is every reason to suspect conflict of interest in the “unprofessional and unpatriotic” refund of $2.2m to GAVI by the former minister.

Olanrewaju Suraju, CSNAC’s Chairman, said in the petition to the EFCC, “CSNAC is therefore, by this petition, requesting an extended and thorough investigation into the abuse of office, unprofessional conduct and conflict of interest associated with the activities of GAVI in Nigeria and, the actions of Dr. Okonjo-Iweala in connection with the refund,”

“Your timely and further action would correct the negative impression of Nigerian, created by the repayment.”

Okonjo has no case whatever to answer. She clearly spelled out what she met, the amount recovered, revenue generated, the transactions money was used for and the amount left. When the woman tried to block the leakages that the governors had put in place to be siphoning income for the federal government, it was the same governors who stood as her antagonists.

What does CSNAC know about reputation and integrity? They don’t have one that is why they don’t value the one Okonjo-Iweala has.

These are merely cock and bull stories. Figments of some irresponsible people's imaginations. Okonjo-Iweala is a shining icon; she will continue to shine and flourish.

Against the lies said about Madam Iweala. One thing is certain that Nigeria will be forever grateful to the Minister of Finance for reducing physical movement of cash in the administration of public funds and introducing the electronic system that has helped to curb corruption. She was so transparent to the point that she has her records intact.

God in heaven will bring to judgement all those who have been after Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala after the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan handed over to the incumbent government of President Mohammadu Buhari.

Okonjo-Iweala is a woman of integrity. These are mere propaganda aimed at soiling her good image. Many have tried to spoil her name but failed; these too will suffer the same fate.

The truth of the matter is that Okonjo-Iweala has no case to answer. She is never corrupt and will not have any reason to be investigated.

Dear Nigerians, I put it to you that these letters originated from our conservative OLUWOLE MARKET. If not, we should then question EFFC and CSNAC's ethics or should I say their credibility, since the whole world is now privy to such fake documents. Whio does this in a sensible society? Our agencies now enslaved to our senseless politicians.

These write-ups are becoming too methodical and organised, it point to one truth; they are man-made. And it only signals to one truth, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala will definitely scale through the many accusations in their leaps and bounds.

Isn't it glaring to anyone who is sensible and observant that Madam Okonjo is being victimized by a bunch chauvinistic, selfish thieves who have mastered the art of frustrating and destroying other peoples' lives
