Nigerian Army In Gun Battle With Insurgents In Okene

                                   
The Nigerian troops are said to be battling suspected militants in Kogi state.
Sources from Okene have confirmed the ongoing gun battle.
According to Premium Times, an Islamic cleric in the town said that the gunmen were “terrorists”.

The cleric said residents remained indoors as the clash continued.
He said: “We are presently in our houses, no any movement at all! Gun shooting everywhere.”
Meanwhile, the governorship election in Kogi state has been slated for Saturday, November 21, and in line with the exercise, the Nigerian police has set aside 31,000 officers to ensure safety within the period.
Solomon Arase, the police inspector general, said the high level of preparation on the part of security agency is in corroboration of the assurance that Governor Idris Wada gave on Wednesday, October 7, to provide adequate security for the electorates.
Arase vowed to deploy seven police officers to each of the poling units across the state in order to checkmate electoral violence.

The inspector general disclosed this at a sensitisation seminar organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) on Wednesday, October 7, in Lokoja.
The police boss assured that there will be adequate security in the state during the governorship poll, adding that flash spots and some elements considered to be security threat to the coming election had been identified.
