21 Local Govt Chairmen In Kogi State Set To Dump PDP For APC.
The re-election bid of Governor Idris Wada for a second term may have suffered a major setback, as the current 21 Local Government Chairmen may have concluded arrangements to defect to All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor and the Council members had a face-off last year when the former (Wada) was fingered in sponsoring a court ruling which ordered the dissolution of the 21 members.
Daily Sun gathered that the move was meant to install those loyal to him as caretaker members.
Though, the governor denied having a hand in the ruling, he has however refused to allow the reinstatement of the said council members who won their case for reinstatement at an Appeal Court in Abuja, a fortnight ago.
The governor was quoted to have said he has no confidence that the council members would work for his re election, and has therefore told them he would obey the Appeal Court order when he wins the Nov 21 election, a development which does not go well with the over 200 council members.
It was learnt that the chairmen have sent an emissary to the candidate of APC, Prince Abubakar Audu of their plan to join the opposition party.
Their leader who did not want his name in print said they will be defecting along with the entire councillors in the 21 LGAs of the state to the APC.
He described Wada’s administration as “lame duck” and one that has betrayed the trust of the people with executive impunity, stating that APC is the panacea to the myriad of problems that have plagued the state in recent time.
“The corruption in the state is second to none, why is Gov Wada seeking re-election? He has no tangible achievements in the state to his credit. He appointed his messengers as caretaker chairmen with the sole aim of cornering the accounts of the LGAs, the Councils system in Kogi state is a fraud where all sorts of corruption are taking place, courtesy of Gov Wada”, he said.
The source advised the various financial institutions not to honour any cheque or transact government businesses with the stooge caretaker chairmen who, he said, are not recognised by law.
