Akwa Ibom Gov Emmanuel Udom Warns Media Practitioners To Desist From Attacking His Government.
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has urged media practitioners to desist from frequent attacks on his government, urging them to partner the state government in order to engender development.
Emmanuel said that his administration was ready to welcome constructive criticism devoid of malice and negative impulse aimed at pulling down his government.
The governor, who said this in Uyo on Saturday when he interacted with journalists, warned journalists against being adversarial in their reportage.
Emmanuel added that the media owed it a duty to the public to provide the masses with accurate, fair and balanced news, urging the media to partner his administration for the benefit of the state.
He said the thrust of his administration was industrialisation even as he added that the industries so far initiatied in the state would create jobs and lift many people from poverty.
“Through your efforts as partners of this enterprise, you have reminded us of our sacred oaths to our people; you have kept our feet on fire and engendered in us a commitment to the abiding principles of the social contract.
“Sometimes, though, you have been a little too critical. I believe the media should not at all times be adversarial; they should applaud us when we do good and constructively criticise when we unintentionally veer off course.
“When I was inaugurated on May 29, I promised to be a master-servant to our people. In the execution of this sacred trust and in observance of the oath I took before our God and you all, I have worked tirelessly to keep faith with that covenant.
Emmanuel maintained that his administration was working hard to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state, saying that his administration had been given a license by the National Electricity Regulatory Council to increase power supply from 119 megawatts to 685 megawatts in the state.
He added that the state government will inaugurate a metre manufacturing plant in Akwa Ibom in two weeks’ time. He said the actual production of the product will begin in May 2016.
The governor, however, decried the attitude of landowners around Four Lane, Osongo Ama Estate for refusing to allow their land to be used in the building of a substation.
He asked the citizens to be patient and cooperate with government in its quest to develop the state.
