Anxiety In Taraba State As Election Petitions Tribunal Sitting In Abuja Delivers Judgement Over Governorship Tussle Tomorrow.

As the Taraba State Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja delivers its judgment tomorrow over the state governorship tussle, residents of the state are now anxious about the outcome of the verdict.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the last election and the current ministerial nominee, Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan, is challenging the propriety
of the election of Governor Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A visit by LEADERSHIP Friday to offices in the state showed that political office holders, politicians and members of the state House of Assembly might have travelled to Abuja, venue of the tribunal judgement.

Our correspondent, who monitored the state for the past two days, reports that government and economic activities of the state are now at standstill, as fears, panic have continued to enveloped the state.

A front line politician in the state, Mr Jones Agyande, who spoke to LEADERSHIP Friday over the present scenario in the state, expressed worry that the present crop of politicians in the state have engaged politics of religious and tribal sentiment.

He said, “In the past, Taraba never experienced politics of religion and tribal difference, but today, Muslims and Christians plays politics of hatred to one another”.

Though some top politicians in the state who spoke with LEADERSHIP Friday on the condition of anonymity,
said commenting on the issue which is before a competent tribunal would
amount to subjudice, supporters of both parties are claiming victory in the case.

Our correspondent gathered that some supporters of both parties were seen discussing the development in groups in offices and strategic locations, including newspaper stands.

Supporters of Governor Ishaku believed that the election which ran into a run- off with the governor winning a landslide was free fair and credible and argued that the APC have no ground to convince the tribunal to nullify the election.

But the supporters of APC argued that the wind of change brewing across the country would sweep across the state when the judgment is delivered as the irregularities complained of by the party were too glaring to be ignored by the tribunal.
