Six Persons Detained Over Attacks On Benue LG Officials.


No fewer than six suspects were said to have been interrogated by law enforcement agents in connection of the recent attacks on officials of bureau for local government during the ongoing verification exercise in Vandeikya Local Government Council a forth night ago in the state

Speaking to Sunday Mirror on the development, the Vandeikya Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Akura, confirmed that six persons were apprehended and are undergoing interrogation with security agents over the assault on officials who were on official engagement to carry out staff auditing with a view to ascertain the accurate staff strength of the council .

Akura frowned at the attitude of those who manhandled the officials and the subsequent destruction of their vehicles and equipment as well as grievous injuries suffered as result of the assault.

“Owing to this dastardly acts we will however do everything humanly possible towards ensuring that the offenders pays dearly for their action stressing that no stone would left unturned in dealing decisively with trouble makers.”

According to him, a petition has already been sent to Special Adviser on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon, Titus Dzam and Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom intimating them of the masterminds of the crises and their apprehension though the identity is still being withheld.

Several attempts to confirm the arrests of the suspect with the state command’s Public Relations Officer Mr. Austine Ezeani on the development were futile as many calls put on his mobile line were not returned.

It would be recalled that a forth night ago officials of Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs were manhandled and severely beaten while the official vehicle in which the team travelled was also destroyed.
