Lagos State Records 260 Fire Disasters In December Alone As Fire Guts Galaxy TV.




A total of 260 fire disasters have been recorded between December 1 and 28, 2015 in Lagos state. According to the Director of the State Fire Service, Mr.Rasak Fadipe, this figure is over 200 incidents higher than what the state recorded in 2014.
The Director made this announcement following a fire out break that occurred yesterday, at the Galaxy Television station where a section of the complex housing Galaxy TV located in Community Road, Allen area of Lagos State, destroying property worth millions of naira.
The fire, which reportedly started around 5:30 am was caused by an electrical spark from the armoured cable connecting the studio to the station’s mast.
According to Fadipe, a distress call on the inferno was received at about 5:59am and water tankers were immediately deployed to the scene to combat the fire.
He said, “What we did when we arrived was to disconnect the electricity. And we were able to put out the fire.”
Fadipe blamed the increase in the number of inferno recorded in the state on the residents, saying “Whenever fire incident occur, residents do not call for help immediately. Rather, they fight the fire alone. It is until it had escalated that they call the emergency lines for help…”
A breakdown of the statistics showed that 16 fire disasters were recorded on Monday while 12 cases were recorded on Sunday.
He further warned residents to desist from storing petrol in their homes, noting that it could escalate fire.Source: Leadership
