Ortom Constitutes Committee To Sustain Engagement With Private Sector In Benue State.



Governor Samuel Ortom has constituted a committee to work out details of a sustained engagement between the Benue State government and the organized private sector.
He announced membership of the committee at the Benue People's House,Makurdi during a dinner he organised for members of the Benue Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mining and Agriculture, BECCIMA.


The Governor stated that the Committee would be chaired by the Commissioner for Trade, Industry, and Investment, Dr Tersoo Kpelai, while membership would comprise Commissioner of Finance, James Olofu, Special Adviser on Special Duties, Joe Kyaagba, and Special Adviser on Economic Development, Dr Bem Melladu.
Other, he said, were Special Adviser on Small and Medium Enterprises SMES, Dr Innocent Adoga, Principal Private Assistant on Knowledge Economy, Dr Tavershima Adyorough, Senior Special Assistant on Industries, Iorver Anemba, and Senior Special Assistant on SMEs, Emmanuel Doughdough.


Governor Ortom also announced plans to set up an Economic Board with the inclusion of BECCIMA members adding that the board would work out modalities to ensure that the business body participated actively in all state, national and international trade fairs.
He explained that as an industrialist himself,he was aware of the challenges members of BECCIMA were facing saying it was against the backdrop that he started tackling insecurity on assumption of office to guarantee a conducive atmosphere for the private sector to thrivesector in the state.
The Governor restated earlier call on the people of the state to be creative and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the state rather than embarking on unwholesome activities that could take them nowhere.
He explained government at the local, state, and national levels does not have capacity to create massive jobs, wealth and opportunities, hence partnership with the organized private sectorhence had become imperative to address the challenges listed.
According to him the responsibility of government was to provide an enabling environment and formulate policies and monitor implementation as well as compliance with regulations.
Earlier, the President of BECCIMA, Mr.Asema Achado, had appealed to the Governor to develop agriculture,adopt Private Public Partnership, PPP, to leverage development and proposed the floating of the Benue Investment and Industrial Fund among others as part of moves to boost the State economy.
Mr.Achado pledged BECCIMA's sustained cooperation with the Ortom administration to enable it succeed and thanked the Governor for hosting them to a dinner,saying the gesture had given them a sense of belonging.
BECCIMA Officials were dressed in traditional attire as mark of recognition and appreciation by the State government while there was a ten minute presentation on Public Private Partnership Development in Benue State by a Consultant, Mr.Terungwa Achado.
