Suswam Invited To Appear Before Commission Of Enquiry.
The Justice Elizabeth Kpojime Commission of Inquiry has invitedthe immediate past Governor of Benue State Gabriel Suswam to appear before it on Wednesday, 9th December, 2015 to provide relevant information and documents relating to (33) thirty-three matters of financial misappropriation recorded during his tenure as governor.
In a letter of invitation to the former governor signed by Chairman of the Commission Justice Elizabeth Kpojime and published in today's national dailies, Suswam is to among other issues, provide all relevant information and documents relating to his financial approvals.
For example, the former governor is expected to explain to the commission reasons behind the termination of the contract to Bi-Water and subsequent award and revision of the contract to MS gilmor construction for the greater Makurdi water works and respective payments for the contract.
Suswam is also to explain to the Commission details about the approval and disbursement of over N68 billion under the sub-head "logistics funds for security surveillance" where more than N1 billion was spent monthly in some cases during his time as governor.
The former governor is also to clear the air on receipt and utilization of about N14b SURE-P funds that accrued to the state during his tenure, approval of N414m and N290m as scholarship amongst others.
Other matters Dr Suswam is required to provide answers to are the approval and utilization of huge cash withdrawals from various accounts of the Bureau for local government and chieftaincy affairs in First Bank, FCMB and Sterling Bank to the tune of over N48 billion between 2011 and May this year.
The immediate past governor is also to provide explanation before the Judicial Commission about authorisation and/or receipt of various cash sums from his aides or agents and the utilisation of same.
Dr Suswam is expected to appear before the Kpojime Judicial Commission of Inquiry at 10am on Wednesday this week.
