WHAT IS THE CAMPAIGN ALL ABOUT?
Its all about promoting reading culture and also sensitizing the
youths to make reading a daily habit.

IS THE CAMPAIGN ONLY FOR THE YOUTHS?
No, it is for everyone but it is aimed at the youths.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO LAUNCH THE CAMPAIGN?
I have noticed that nowadays students and youths no longer have
interest in reading and a lot of young people are ignorant of a lot of
things because they don't seek information and that is why they keep
doing some things they should not do. One of the best ways to seek
information is through reading. Reading culture is declining in Africa
especially among the younger generation and it is a very serious issue
so much that if not arrested, it may turn the younger generation to a
pack of illiterates.
There are many factors responsible for this negative trend. The
environment some people find themselves in impair learning, reading
and research. We need to create a conducive environment that will
encourage reading.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO LAUNCH THE CAMPAIGN ONLINE?
Using social media is a good way to spread information and I believe
the best way to reach out to young people is through the social media
because that is where most of them spend more of their time.

A WHITE MAN ONCE SAID "IF YOU WANT TO HIDE SOMETHING FROM A BLACKMAN,
PUT IT IN A BOOK." YOU ALSO WROTE IN AN ARTICLE " IF YOU WANT TO HIDE
SOME INFORMATION FROM THE PEOPLE WHO ARE AVERSE TO READING, COMMIT IT
TO WRITING
True, Do you know that a lot of information that will benefit many
people has been deposited in books, but if people do not read such
books, how do you expect them to access such information? Ignorance
makes people perish. The truth is I used to be a hater of reading but
now I have tremendously fallen in love with it. I was inspired by a
lady I saw on TV, she said a lot about reading and that was how the
interview she granted made a difference in my life.
ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE MAKE READING A DAILY HABIT JUST LIKE EATING?

Yes and that is why I am using the hashtag #EatDailyReadDaily. We eat
daily, what is stoping us from reading daily? Do you know that some
people will never go to bed without eating, praying and so on. People
should not go to bed without reading even if it is just for few
minutes.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR STUDENTS IN THE HIGHER INSTITUTION AND
SECONDARY SCHOOL?
My advice to them is to set time apart to read and revise topics
taught each day and if they don't understand anything they have read,
they should humble themselves by seeking help from their mates who
know better than them or they should go to their
teachers/lecturers/parents.

DO YOU THINK PARENTS HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY TO PROMOTE READING?
Parents have a vital role to play. If a child is in an environment
where adults are always reading, the tendency is for that child to
develop that habit. People who build houses should cultivate the habit
of making provision for a mini-library just like some people make
provision for chapel or mosque.

IN AN ARTICLE YOU WROTE, YOU SAID "THE YOUTHS ARE THE FUTURE OF
TOMORROW BUT IF THEY DON'T READ TODAY IT MEANS THEIR FUTURE WILL BE
BLEAK. HOW?
Do you know that history is gradually being phaced out in Nigeria
curriculum. A youth who wants to become a politician tomorrow must
know the history, pre-colonial era, constitutional development,
independence and post independence history of the country he or she
wants to serve. A person who studies medicine and is only obsessed
with reading medical books is knowledgeable in his field alone and
become an ignoramus in other fields.

DO YOU THINK THE GOVERNMENT HAS A ROLE TO PLAY?

Yes, the government has a large role to play. Can you believe that
most schools don't have libraries while some schools have empty
libraries (no books, no furniture e.t.c.) The government should also
encourage community libraries although this can be a concerted effort
between the government and the community.

young by Gbile Akanni

There are some things you will never achieve, places you will never
go, people you will never meet, opportunities you will never seize and
problems you will never solve if you don't read. Please pick a book
and read. Reading has changed my life and it will change yours too if
you decided to read. If you keep reading daily it will become a part
of you, just keep reading and don't stop.
