Nigerians Blast Dambazau For ''Shoe Shiner'' Saga.Read Their Reactions.
A video posted yesterday, January 16, by Premium Times has gone viral and is already eliciting reactions from Nigerians in the nation’s social stratosphere.
In the 30 seconds video, Abdulrahman Dambazau, the minister of interior in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari, was recorded stretching his leg for his aide to clean his shoes with a white handkerchief.
President Muhammadu Buhari congratulating Dambazau after he was sworn in as Nigeria’s minister of interior
The aide who the report suggests is an officer of the State Security Service (SSS) made sure Dambazau’s shoes were thoroughly cleaned as he bent down to carryout the act while the Kano-born retired-general was more focused on some actions unfolding in a distance.
Dambazau is a retired general and a highly decorated officer of the Nigerian army officer, who served as Chief of Army Staff between 2008 and 2010. He is also a close friend and ally of President Muhammadu Buhari. This is not the first time Dambazau is enmeshed in controversy. In 2010, as head of the Nigerian Army, he withdrew all the soldiers stationed in the presidential villa, Aso Rock to escort the body of the late Nigerian president, Umaru Musa Yar’adua back to the seat of power without the authorisation of the then Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan.
Around the same period, Dambazau was deeply implicated in improper financial deals as he was accused of awarding “peacekeeping” contracts worth N9 billion to fictitious companies reportedly owned by himself, former governor of Delta state, James Ibori and an Israeli arms supplier, Alon Neiken.
Meanwhile, Nigerians who have watched the video have been airing their opinion on the issue.
Naij.com reader, Callistus Owuamanam, wrote on our Facebook page: ”When an SSS officer cleans the shoes of a minister, who will clean the shoes of the First Lady, a General? There is so much to do about our mentality. There is so much impunity, arrogance and extravagance among our political class.”Another reader with the name Adex Sunmola wrote: ”This is arrant rubbish and disgusting.
Is he handicap that cleaning his shoes himself is a problem. To me is like seeing the guy as a piece of thrash or subhuman doing that public.”An individual who commented on the video on Nigeria’s biggest forum, Nairaland with the moniker ”Omenka’‘ wrote: ‘‘This is preposterous and totally condemnable!! The only thing left for some of these men to do is ask their “boys” to bang their wives for them.Don’t these boys have a mind of their own?”
Another comment on the forum by one ”hurricaneChris” read: ”One is a Lt General the other is a bloody civilian. If Dambazzau could treat VP Jonathan the way he did during Yaradua’s death saga, who is an ordinary SSS officer?”Naij.com also monitored some comments on micro-blogging site, Twitter.

Dambazau was tipped by many political commentators to emerge as President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice as National Security Adviser (NSA)given the role he played in the emergence of the president to his current status. But Buhari settled for the little-less known Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd.), who holds a PhD in Architecture from the United Kingdom.
What's kind of disgusting video is this flying around with the Minister of Interior Gen Danbazzau having a shoe shine from a security operative who was clearly on duty with his service pistol in its holster?? Maybe if this was at a private occasion we may never have seen it which in any case doesn't make it acceptable but this was a public open air function!! Are our VIPs oblivious of what the job descriptions of security operatives are? Are our security operatives ill equipped with training to know that such actions are degrading to their professional services and calling? Or they have a slave mentality to be subservient to those they are attached to? From holding microphone, to carrying handbag and umbrella. Please let the officer in charge of this operative mete out punitive measures on this officer, this is too disgraceful. As for the Minister, the President must as a matter of urgency sanction him immediately. This is totally unacceptable.Linda Inyareghdoo
Lins, that unethical conduct by a top government official like Dambazzau is not a good thing, it undermines the public trust in the fair enforcement of security by security agents, reducing govt to a shoemaker isnt cool at all fa..........PMB will not be happy to see this.....Fabmimi
I blame the security operative. They have reduced themselves next to nothing. Absolute rubbish....Terver Uza
You go to some government buildings and discover elevators, toilets etc are off limits for 'ordinary folk', set aside strictly for ogas. Facilities taken for granted elsewhere are " fenced off" only to be used by the big men who make no effort in providing same for those under them. This misguided approach to power needs a shake up.......Joe Abuku
