Gov Ortom Attends Thanksgiving Service Organized By Mr. Terwase Akwaza, Alias ''Ghana'', Former Gang Leader Who Embraced Amnesty Program Of The State Government.[PHOTOS].





Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, yesterday pledged to sustain security measures put in place by his administration.
He spoke at a thanksgiving service organized by Mr. Terwase Akwaza, alias Ghana, former gang leader who embraced the amnesty program of the state government.
The occasion took place at St John Baptist Quasi Parish, Gbise, in Katsina-Ala local government area.


The Governor stated that he would boost the activities of the vigilante group and the Joint Civilian Task Force to complement the efforts of the conventional security agencies to beef up the security of lives and property in the state.
He stated that Anambra and Imo State governments have recorded appreciable mileage in this direction and that his administration would take similar measures in its efforts to curb crime.
According to him the successes recorded in the execution of the amnesty program have been achieved with the active support of the church, traditional and community leaders, the youths and security agencies and solicited continued support.
The Governor stated that the program had become a model for several states in Nigeria and other communities beyond.
"For us to attract the necessary investment into the state that would generate massive jobs, wealth and opportunities, we must provide security as a priority," Governor Ortom maintained.
He announced that the state government would use the N10 billion infrastructure facility it secured at the weekend from the Federal Government to complete critical projects in the state.
The Governor stated that the money hit the state government's accounts at the weekend and assured that it would be used judiciously.
In his homily, Bishop Peter Adobo of Katsina-Ala Diocese expressed happiness that the Ortom administration took the peace initiative of the church to a higher level by the amnesty program and commended what he described as the sincerity and commitment demonstrated by the Governor.
The Bishop stated that the mass was being celebrated to pray for sustained peace in the state noting that the church never turns its back on the penitent but urges complete repentance because everyone was a sinner who requires God’s mercy.
He advocated the engagement of those who have embraced the program in rehabilitation, employment and skills acquisition programs and urged them to change their behavior like the prodigal son.
Bishop Adobo urged the government to sustain its cordial relationship with the church and supports its programs in the education, health, and community development sectors.
Organizer of the event, Mr. Akwaza state that the occasion was an opportunity for him to publicly renounce crime and requested forgiveness from those he may have offended and pledged never to return to criminal activities pointing out that he appreciated his reunion with society especially family members.
At the reception which was held at the Terwase Akwaza Technical Science Secondary School, Governor Ortom received hundreds of those who decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, into the All Progressives Congress, APC, led by a former member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Orsootyo Lough.
Several groups dressed the Governor in traditional Tiv attire.
