Jonathan’s Ex-Aide Sues EFCC Over Detention




Former  Aide-de-camp ,ADC, to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Adegbe Ojogbane has filed a legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ,EFCC, over his detention. Adegbe Ojogbane .

In the suit filed through Ogwu Onoja, his counsel, Adegbe is claiming N100 million damages for his detention, which “violates his fundamental rights”. Onoja urged the court to declare that his client’s arrest and continued detention by EFCC since February 11 was unconstitutional and violated his right to personal liberty guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution. 

The applicant’s counsel contended that EFCC’s action violated Articles 5,6 and 12 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The case has been fixed for February 26 for hearing. When Vanguard contacted the commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, to confirm the story, he said he had contacted the legal department of the EFCC in that regard. He said: “I have been trying to confirm it from my legal department but have not received any response from them. ‘’I have sent a text message to the Deputy Director of Legal department to confirm the story. I am waiting for their reply.”
