Benue: Fake Catholic Priest Nabbed In Markudi

A 45-year-old man identified as Mr. Amile Terhile who has been swindling people as a Catholic priest from Katsina-Ala Diocese with the fake name Father Clement Tartenger has been apprehended.

He was arrested yesterday in Wadata Market, Makurdi while trying to play his tricks on a man who to his ill luck was a police officer.
During interrogation by pressmen, he said that he hails from Gboko local government area of Benue State and that he uses the “proceeds of the business” to take care of his three children and estranged wife who now lives in Wannune.

The Chancellor of Makurdi Diocese Father John Ikponko in a reaction advised lay faithful to be careful while receiving people posing as priests by insisting on knowing their dioceses of origin, and when not satisfied with their answers should direct such persons to Catholic Secretariat rather than giving them instant assistance.
