Benue Women Condemn Killings By Fulani Herdsmen, Wants UNICEF To Probe Killing Of Children,

A non governmental organisation
Aliwe Daughters Initiative (ADI)  comprising women of Tiv extraction based in Abuja have condemned recent killings in parts of Benue by yet to be identified Fulani herdsmen.

The organisation through its Chairperson Mrs. Ngunan Uganden on Tuesday described the killing of innocent women, children and farmers in the state as primitive, barbaric and unacceptable genocide that must not be allowed to continue.

ADI challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately extend Federal might to the affected areas in lending support to the state government to end the crisis. Since the outbreak of the fresh crisis in Agatu, Buruku and Logo communities last month, over 300 persons have been confirmed killed by the Fulani herdsmen with several others displaced.

According to Mrs. Uganden, what is sad about the recent killings is that innocent children are currently being kidnapped and raped rampantly. She called on the United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to investigate the perpetrators of this heinous acts and come to the aide of vulnerable children and women that have been affected in the crisis. "We insist that the continued perpetration of crisis between herdsmen and farmers in Benue which have claimed hundreds of lives and property worth millions of Naira destroyed is bringing untold hardship to innocent people in the state who are predominantly farmers.

"Cattle rearing is a business like farming in itself is full business for Benue farmers. Fulanis should be compelled to established ranches in the respective states to feed their animals. The continued attacks on farmers by herdsmen can no longer be tolerated,"

ADI insisted.
