Gov Ortom Inaugurates The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission BESIEC At Government House Makurdi.[Pictures].

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, today charged the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BESIEC, to conduct council polls in the state as soon as possible.He gave the charge while inaugurating the Chairman, Secretary, and members of the commission at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House. 
"You must therefore hit the ground running by putting in place the machinery to conduct local government elections as soon as possible," he stated.










"The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (as amended) provides for a system of democratically elected local government councils and our administration which believes in the rule of law and due process took this bold step of the reconstitution of the commission in the face of lean financial resources as a step towards the fulfillment of this constitutional provision."
Governor Ortom congratulated the Chairman, Dr. John Tsuwa, Secretary, Mr. John Shishi, and other members of the commission, Messrs James Ochijila, Igba Asemave, Alexander Nyookyegh, Augustine Ike, and Kate Ijogi on their appointment.
According to him, their selection was based on merit, experience, and proven integrity with the conviction that they would discharge the responsibilities required of the commission with efficiency and without blemish.
"I charge you to conduct transparent, credible, free and fair council polls even as we pledge to respect the verdict of the people," he stressed.
"The integrity of our electoral process and its reputation must be carefully nurtured so that it can earn the respect and confidence of our people, every vote must count."
Chairman of the commission, Dr Tsuwa sued for the cooperation of the people to deliver on transparent and credible polls while pledging to justify the confidence reposed in members.
