Lagos Issues Ultimatum To Beggars Amid Anti-Begging Campaign.

The Lagos state government is warning beggars to leave Lagos within three months or face “drastic action”, amid an official campaign advising residents to stop giving alms.

The three-month radio campaign is calling on Lagos residents not to facilitate street begging which is banned under state law.

The Lagos commissioner of youth and social development, Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, said that once the campaign ends the state will enforce the law against beggars, many of whom she said are engaged in “criminal activities and hard drugs.”
