The ancestral home of the Tiv nation and home to defunct NPFL club BCC Lions of Gboko, Gboko Town, was shut down yesterday, when supporters of the club decided to come out en masse to mourn the death of their former coach, Amodu Shuaibu, who died on Saturday morning.

The late tactician coached the famous club, bringing numerous honours to the state and engineered a number of home-grown talents for the national teams.

Shuaibu led them to the African Cup Winners Cup (now CAF Confederation Cup) in 1990 and to two FA Cup (now Federation Cup) trophies.

The Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, yesterday, commiserated with the family of the late former coach, the government and people of Edo State and all soccer-loving Nigerians over the death of the renowned tactician.

Ortom expressed shock over the sad loss, saying that the football history of Benue State will not be complete without the mention of the deceased’s contribution, whose time as coach of the BCC Lions Football Club saw the club aim higher and achieve more.

Ortom prayed to God to prevent further loss of the country’s sports personalities.
