Jigawa State Universal Education Board understudies Lagos SUBEB.
The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Ganiyu Oluremi Sopeyin recently played host to his Jigawa State counterpart when a team of educationists comprising the Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Education Board, Dr. Sanni Abdullah Gumel and other members of the Board paid a courtesy visit with a view to understudy the operations and success stories of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB).
Addressing the visitors in Lagos, Dr Sopeyin noted that the successes recorded by Lagos SUBEB are due to the ingenuity and tenacity of the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, whose passion for education is unwavering, stressing that only a Governor with such passion could record laudable feats within this short period.
According to him the present administration has built and renovated schools, provided free books for pupils, employed and trained teachers, equipped schools and provided better welfare packages for its workforce, emphasising that all these provisions were on-going and being improved upon.
Dr. Sopeyin also hinted that the State government would build more all-inclusive schools across the state, with a view to providing basic education to children with special needs and whose parents are having difficulties in educating them, adding that these children are also members of the society and must not be neglected.
"Parents with children in need of special care and attention and are six years old should go and register them in any of the all-inclusive schools nearest to them just as other children are being registered in the on-going registration exercise", he asserted.
He noted that for education to succeed at any level a lot of funding, cooperation and collaboration with stakeholders is required, adding that government cannot fund education alone.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Education Board, Dr. Sanni Abdullah Gumel noted that the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) would be winding up in December, hence the State needed to collaborate with another state which has recorded successes in the education sector, adding that as part of their understudy tour, his team would visit schools and Local Government Education Areas.
In another development, Dr. Sopeyin admonished Lagos State primary school pupils to shun all forms of vices as this would only lead them to destruction.
Sopeyin gave the admonition recently during an interactive session with the Lagos State primary schools pupils held at the SUBEB Hall in Maryland, adding that they stand to gain a lot by adhering to the commandments of God and knowing that the road to success in life is through hard work, truthfulness and obedience.
