Sen Lanre Tejuosho calls for the removal of immunity clause from the constitution.
The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Dr Lanre Tejuosho, Monday called for the removal of immunity clause from the nation’s Constitution, saying such would check abuse of power by political officer holders.
Tejuosho said the if immunity clause was expunged, it would make the president, governors and their deputies to be at par with ordinary Nigerians and check executive rascality.
He spoke at the senatorial briefing and empowerment programme held in Abeokuta to commemorate his one year in office.
The event featured the distribution of multi-million naira items, including taxi cabs, motorcycles, power transformers, sewing machines, deep freezers, generators and grinding machines, to his constituents and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking against the controversy trailing the proposed life pension and immunity for the Senate President, House of Representatives Speaker and other principal officers of the National Assembly, Tejuosho said neither the leaders of the executive nor legislature deserve immunity.
