Illegal structures on drainages,illegal waste disposal,poor attitudes towards environment are causes of water flood in Makurdi -Hon Wende



Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources / Environment, Hon. Nick Wende has attributed the high rate of water flood in Makurdi metropolis to increased human activities, illegal waste disposal by citizens.
Wende made this statement while responding to questions from from Ayatutu News 24 in Makurdi, Benue State.


Wende was on Tuesday 12, July 2016 accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,Engr. George Edeh on an assessment tour to ascertain the major courses of water flood in the state capital and the level of damages coursed by the water flood across Makurdi.

Addressing the press after the inspection tour, Hon. Nick enumerated five courses of water flood in the state capital adding that both the state and the federal government including stakeholders have a role to play to stop this menace. He said human activities, illegal structures on drainage channels and poor attitudes towards the environment remain the major courses of water flood in the state capital.

He enjoined residents to clean up water drainage and avoid indiscriminate waste disposal to avoid this avoidable natural disaster in the state.

He however assured residents of both the state of federal government quick intervention in areas where government assistance is needed to curtail further occurrence of water flood disaster in Makurdi, the state capital.
