APC Secretariat sealed up by security operatives.
Following the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, security operatives have sealed the premises of the party’s secretariat.
Security operatives were deployed to the party’s secretariat on Wednesday, August 17, following protests by some aggrieved party members over the alleged imposition of a governorship candidate by Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the party, Premium Times reports.
The aggrieved members had on Tuesday driven away party officials from the secretariat and announced the sack of the chairman, Isaacs Kekemeke, after which they locked the gate of the secretariat.
Some loyalists of the sacked chairman led by one Amoda Bello, stormed the secretariat on Wednesday, to break open the gates.
They later moved away, taking strategic positions along the streets and in front of the secretariat as armed police officers arrived at the scene.
The police officers arrived at the secretariat alongside a detachment of operatives of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and took charge.
Speaking on the incident, Bello said no group has the right to lock up the secretariat of the party.
He described the action of the aggrieved group as illegal, asking them to channel their grievances through the appropriate quarters.
Also reacting, the APC state secretary, Rahman Rotimi, condemned the action of members who locked the party state secretariat on Tuesday.
According to him, nobody had the right to lock the party secretariat as it is the symbol of the party.
He added that there was bound to be differences among members of a political party like APC, but it could be resolved.
The APC governorship primaries in the state is slated for August 27. However, there was pandemonium at the party’s secretariat on Tuesday as some party members protested the rumoured endorsement of one of the aspirants, Olusegun Abraham, by the national leader of the party, Tinubu.
One of the governorship aspirants, Dr Tunji Abayomi, said Tinubu was responsible for the crisis.
