House of Reps member condemns another Military Invasion of Benue Community.

A Federal Lawmaker, Hon. Herman Hembe who is a representative of Vandeikya/Konshisha Constituency has condemned the invasion of Gbishe community in Katsina-Ala local government of Benue State by the Nigerian military.

The invasion which took place in the early hours of Saturday involved no less than 16 armoured vehicles and 200 soldiers in a bid to apprehend former militia leader, Terwase Akwaza also known as Ghana following his alleged involvement his various crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and murder.

Hon. Hembe however questioned the rationale behind the deployment of soldiers to the area when Fulani militia continue to terrorise communities in the state without any tangible intervention by the military.

He likened the invasion to a one that took place at Zaki Biam, Ukum local government in 2001 when a similar manhunt led to the destruction of the community and killing innocent lives.

“I understand from news reports that the Nigerian Army has invaded areas in Tiv land. Such reports have also stated the search for one miliant, Ghana as the reason for the invasion.

“I am uncomfortable with military invasions as history has shown the devastation they portend, particularly in Tiv land. We are a people suffering immensely from the invasion of herdsmen, I pray this does not further increase the pain of our people.

“Tiv people voted massively for this APC  government, while we wait for the first evidence that we did the right thing, this invasion must not make the people conclude otherwise.” He said via his official facebook page.
